Inside The Thrird Reich / Bavaria Studios, Munich. E->

English translation down below.

Quelques extraits...

I could frolic about between two commas, bum about playful and frisk about without the handicap of only be taken for a fag.

Was I a SA in Berlin in May 1933 burning the books? I was. I totally identified myself to what the action meant at every single moment of the rehearsals and during the time of the shooting, digging in the deepest inner me the right appropriate sensations and gestures of disgust a nazi's mind could feel, in order to give back in front of the cameras of which I was becoming a slave, the right face to put on, the right eyes that matched the hatred of the Jews as asked by Marvin the director, to play. I had to scream out loud the text of execration and aversion to that race. I had to hate Freud, Karl Marx, Marcel Proust, Merleau-Ponty, Thomas Mann and the others, watch them go on fire before other intellectuals and bankers still alive in their beautiful apartments would soon enough but quick, go by freight trains and join them in hell where they belonged, which delighted me and made me come of hatred. I abhorred them all, really. The Jews, the Communists, the queers and all the others that were born with vicious conformations. The books of course were fake, real books, no matter the authors, that had been brought on the set by the Bavaria studios, but it was indeed Freud, Marx, Mann, Brecht, Proust or Ponty I happily brunt. I knew I was the character. I knew I was a S.A. I knew from this very first scene of shooting I was an actor. And the more the white harsh lights of spotlights panning across the Berlinerstrasse were focusing on my act, the more the svatiska armband and my proud shining eagle at the top of the kepi I was wearing became part of me to hate them even more till Marvin through the portable speaker said ''Cut!''. I was still Pascal in the make-up rooms and a tragic nazi swine under in lights in front of the cameramen whose string I blew overnight in my room at the Four Seasons hotel. I even hated them, and I hated them in Panavision, facts, voice and gestures, -butch, becoming again later, their whore on duty as a glutton and approved faggot. An other Pascal was born with one real virile voice that scared insipid crowds and shacked of dread Jewish homes. Robert Vaughn had learned me with his experience and skill, and acting in front of him who was waiting for the next scene to be shot was giving me wings. For me too, I could be a star, just like him. Me too I wanted america at my feet the way he had it, and I dreamed of that happiness. I was going there, but more important on that day, I knew on this movie set during the very first scene of shooting, I was indeed an actor. A new soul out of its body that straight away entered an other, transgressing that way the hard reality of my two feet on the ground, its boredom, and death.
And I was transgressing it expressing myself in an other language they called foreign, which was in fact among the ones I could speak, the only adjective I could not translate and that did not make sense to me. Other words and other grammatical rules that were different from my mother tongue and that I pronounced with the right accent my breathing already controlled before speaking them up, showed on the screen and to my spirit of the moment, the Pascal of ordinary days turning into a character of an invented version that was totally new and original. The almost native gestures I took to the sounds the language implied, were in me taken instinctively. I was not the same Pascal anymore whether I spoke English, Italian or Arabic, Hebrew or German, but a new personality in each of these languages since the very first syllable. I waled and sat down as an Englishman, ate or laughed as an Italian, drove or entertained as an Israeli man, could think as an Arab woman and being screwed as an Austrian hooker, and so one as the commutation of the acts into a new state of mind was entirely permissive. Never somehow could I do in French. I was in my spoken mother tongue, only a poof with a far too affected voice that exposed myself in public with all the deformities of mine as they were, and made me feed mentally, obese. I was born as an actor, only in these languages I could speak and so naturally had learnt. They had been since childhood, the stages of my performances. To play had begun for me by expressing myself into structures that were not my initial ones and therefore dismantled the reciprocal connections of a brand new character with no passed, allowing me then to absorb with infinite freedom, the moment of the lines to say into sounds and gestures that only the language and the director could modulate, without touching my mind and affection that both remained that way, completely blank. I could frolic about between two commas, bum about playful and frisk about without the handicap of only be taken for a fag.
