That night, which Antonioni had made me spent at the
Gherardini'so, had been kept in my memory, deep inside of me as one party of a lifetime. It had reflected my own mirror and cooled down my own loneliness by gazing at me the one of the others I could understand so well as I since long ago had been there. I was walking through the streets of Milan like Jeanne Moreau was, wandering here and there, searching for a human look to catch, or for some local street attraction to watch that would let me desert my boredom and my despair. Love was not there anymore. Had I really ever met my Giovanni Pontano? Had I loved him even once? I was not sure of the answer. What about him, had he loved me even once? All the men that came and knock at my door all carried in them the underlying expectation to meet him next. So they knocked and knocked, more and more of them did, more and more often, one after the other almost in a row. I wanted to stop walking without knowing where I was going to, and I wanted to be loved for what I exulted, body and soul. Being loved for the good, the bad and the lacks, just as from the extremity of my toes until the extremity of my nipples. I never had been. The physical prevailed far too much from an inner give and take, enough to forget that it took two to love and being loved, -completely. And, later in that night of Antonioni's lights at the Gherardini's, I wondered to myself if I knew to love. ''
